2009 Mid-Year Leadership Conference

St. Louis, Missouri, February 6-8, 2009

What Is The Mid-Year Leadership Conference?
No program in recent years has had as positive an effect on chapter management than the Mid-Year Leadership Conference, which is held each February. At the two-day event, the Grand Chapter brings together newly elected sages, second counselors, third counselors, chapter/colony directors and province archons to discuss topics such as life skills and personal development. The conference also provides a wealth of resources on chapter operations, and fraternity management.

When Does The Conference Take Place?
The Sigma Pi Educational Foundation and the Executive Office are proud to once again host the 8th Annual Mid-Year Leadership Conference in St. Louis, Missouri, February 6-8, 2009.

Is This Conference Successful?
Survey results of conference attendees show that a full 100 percent of undergraduate leaders said it is worth continuing. Delegates offered such comments as, “Sigma Pi is the best organization I’ve ever been a part of, and I thank those before me who made it what it is today...” and “One more positive experience to put in the books! Thank you alumni for donating the money that allowed this event to happen.”

How Much Does It Cost?
Sigma Pi, through the support of alumni, has been able to provide funding which covers the registration, room, and meal costs for chapter/colony presidents, vice presidents, treasurers, chapter/colony directors, and province archons. All other registered attendees will cost $175.00.

What Is The Dress Code?
The dress for the Mid-Year Leadership Conference is Business Casual. A collared shirt is required for all sessions. NO sandals or graphic t-shirts will be allowed.

What Does That Mean For You?
Simply put, it means that all chapter/colony presidents, vice presidents, treasurers, chapter/colony directors, and province archons, get to attend this conference for free. Sigma Pi will pay for your registration, your hotel room, and your meals (excluding Saturdays dinner).
This Year's Conference Highlights
· Undergraduate Agenda
· Alumni Agenda
· Shuttle Transportation Downtown on Saturday Night
· A Newly Structured Agenda

Can Anyone Attend?
Absolutely! This conference is open to any Sigma Pi member who wants to attend. If you would like to attend this conference, and you are not a president, vice president, treasurer, chapter/colony director, or province archon, the cost is $175.00.

Your Registration Fee Of $175.00 includes the following:
Room, workbook, nametag, opening reception on Friday night, breakfast and lunch on Saturday, shuttle service to and from downtown St. Louis on Saturday.

Robbie and everyone else,

I am sure that Mid-Year has ALWAYS been the weekend of the first Friday in February. Put that in your phones and calendars for the next 10 years.

So are you going skiing or not?

I'm seeing if we can get the deposit back for the ski trip. If I can get it back, I'll be at "Leadership".

I've looked forward to the ski trip all year. Skiing is the only thing I like about winter. Plus it's a hell of a party. We better have some fun in St. Louie!

I may be out of the country, but I want everybody to go that can from USI. However, it is VERY important to note that this is a leadership conference and not just a big party. I would hope that everybody that goes supports the delegates and also trys to get more out of this than a few drinks.

Who from USI is going and have you registered?

I was going to do it today, since it said you could register today, had no idea there was a limit to the number of people.

I'm going to talk to some people and see what I can do.

Well, it appears I ****ed up, and thought that when it said you could register through today that you could actually do that.

I've been talking to Justin Steele, and he's sticking to the fact that they are actually over on the number they can accommodate.

Sorry to Lucky and Kyle, feel free to give me the head punch I deserve next time you see me.

I don't think we will be fine, I just did some math.

122 active chapters, 14 colonies, equals 136 total Sigma Pi groups. Each send 3 people, equals 408 people, their max for going is 325.

Other brothers could also sign up to go, not being officers.

Guys,

Mid-Year is an optional conference to attend. We have never made this a mandatory event because that goes against the spirit of the conference. 3 years ago we added a third position to be able to attend the conference. This was the recruitment chair. That year we had over 400 people attend and the conference got out of hand. We couldn't even put tables in the main conference area so people couldn't take notes or anything. We felt that this went against the classroom environment we wanted so we had to institute a cap of 325 so we could have tables and keep the conference managable.

Matt your math is correct we don't have enough space for every chapter to attend and actually you aren't taking into account CDs and PAs that also attend the conference. We have stated on the website and thru email it is registration on a first come first serve basis. Registration is always up on the site December 1st and closes mid-January or until we hit our cap. We had stated that we were keeping registration up thru the end of the day on 1-12 the week prior but when we got to the office yesterday we had over 60+ new registrations that put us over the cap number which is why we had to take down registration early. This is obviously something that can be avoivded by registration as soon as it goes live on the website.

David you are also correct we have other officers and regular chapter members attend this conference. They have to pay a registration fee of $175 which some people did. Xi chapter comes to mind, they have 6 people attending, three of those members paid the fee but they registered back in early December so we can't deny them the ability to attend even if another chapter fails to register.

I hope this answers everyone's questions. Feel free to email me if you guys have anymore!

Justin, thanks for the clarification! It seems that we have really missed out this time, but we will know better for next time. Maybe we can have a PA workshop this spring and cover most of the critical information covered at Mid-Year.

Nope, I do not have time to travel to the great northern chapters. However, if memory serves me there is a new one.
