Three Auburn Alpha Delta brothers have produced the Sigma Pi Sweetheart Song on a CD. In attempting to distribute the CD, we find that the alumni in years 1950-1965 or so are interested because they learned the song, sang it to their sweetheart (both personal sweetheart & the fraternity sweetheart) and are ordering copies. We are also finding that current Sigmi Pi's did not know there was a Sweetheart Song therefore do not have much interest.
I would like to hear from Sigma Pi's on this issue. Would the current fraternity chapters and members be interested in hearing the song and regenerating a bit of Sigma Pi history and song?

At Gamma Xi, we still learn the sweetheart song and sing it to sweethearts. I'm not sure when the practice started as most of our older alumni don't recall the song. The last time I checked, the song is in the pledge manual so I don't quite get how some brothers claim to not know it exists. However, the fireside song has always been a bit more popular.
That being said, I'd be interested in hearing the arrangement as most guys I've heard do it sound awful.

thats a great idea because i can honestly say most of our members know we have the songs but none of us actually have them memorized, including the fireside song. even the fireside song i've only ever heard sang once, and that was at convo.

Thanks Travis & Jake! This being my very first post, it is cool to receive a response.
Go to the National Web Page, click up The Emerald on line, to the Summer 2008 issue, page 28. This gives the story how the Sweetheart Song got started.
I thought all the current chapters did not know or sing the song and you say yes. Our goal in recording the 7 versions of our Sweetheart Song was to provide rememberance to alumni who learned the song AND to assist current chapters to revive it. The full sheet music (including a quartet music) is a download on each CD.
Talk more!

I am sure that I was one of the ones that has sung it badly.
We even sang it to Stephanie at Robbie Nelson's wedding. It is a good song.
That being said, I am also VERY interested in hearing what you guys have put together. If there is anything I can do to help out let me know.

That's because nobody at Gamma Xi knows how to sight read music.

Jake the Snake
If your chapter has not memorized the Sweetheart Song, the CD is a good teaching tool. It has the sheet music in the CD as download and the baritone solo is clear and gives the proper tempo.
And, Jake; or Snake; How about installment payments........$4 down, $6 when you strainghten out the checking account, $3 after 2-3/4 months and the $3 balance when you are married. Will that work?
